Why Simpler Marketing Can Create Better Business Growth

Episode Summary

What if growing your business did not require more content, more complicated funnels, or a massive audience?

In this bonus episode of The Building Well Podcast, Amanda Magho sits down with Jordan Gill, Senior Affiliate Marketing Manager at Kit and longtime business owner, for a practical conversation about email marketing, affiliate relationships, brand partnerships, and what actually deserves your attention as an established service provider.

Jordan shares why consistency matters more than overcomplicated email strategies, how personality can make your marketing more memorable in an AI-heavy world, and why even a small audience can create meaningful opportunities when it is the right audience. She also pulls back the curtain on how brands identify potential partners, why companies may be paying attention long before you ever pitch them, and how simple relationship-building can eventually lead to bigger collaborations.

From deciding whether to write an email or post on social media when time is limited to understanding open rates, lead magnets, automation, affiliate marketing, and intentional brand touch points, this conversation is a reminder that effective marketing does not always need another layer. Sometimes the better strategy is to simplify what you are already doing and become more intentional with it.

3 Key Takeaways

Your marketing does not need to become more complicated as you grow.

Jordan shares that some creators with email lists of 500,000 subscribers or more have surprisingly simple email systems, sometimes using only a handful of automations. More segmentation, more funnels, and more moving pieces do not automatically create better results. The goal is to understand what your audience actually needs and build enough structure to support that without creating unnecessary complexity.

Being human is becoming an even bigger marketing advantage.

As AI makes generic information easier to create and access, Jordan believes personality and point of view matter even more. The seemingly insignificant details about who you are, what you enjoy, and how you think can become memorable connection points with your audience. You do not need to manufacture a personality for your brand, but allowing people to see more of the real person behind the expertise can make your marketing more distinct.

You do not need a massive audience to start building valuable partnerships

Affiliate marketing can be much bigger than earning commission from a link. Jordan explains that brands pay attention to who is already using, recommending, and creating results with their products, and those relationships can grow into sponsorships, collaborations, events, and other opportunities. A smaller audience with strong fit and conversion can still be valuable, which means founders do not have to wait until they reach an arbitrary follower or subscriber count before beginning those relationships.
